To have courage for whatever comes in life - everything lies in that.
Do you have it? It's my belief that we all have courage when we really need it. How often have you heard a story about a peson performing some heroic act and you immediately think, 'I could never do that.'? I bet you could do "it", whatever "it" may be if faced with a situation where you needed to act in a big way.
We each need courage for things that are completely unique to us as individuals. For instance, I'm deathly afraid of heights, so I need to muster up all the courage I have around what I perceive as a high place. My three kids vacillate between being amused and annoyed by my phobia. None of them are afraid of heights. They don't even think about it. Courage is not in play for any of them when they glide down a 2 story high escalator, ride up a mountain in a chairlift or swoosh back down that same mountain on skis or a snowboard. I, on the other hand, feel sheer terror and frenzied panic when faced with all of those things. I need to summon my courage and push through my uncomfortable feelings. There are times I do this marvelously well and give myself a big pat on the back. There are other times I struggle.
What we do in the times when we struggle - that my friend is courage. We continue to try. We continue to believe in our ability. We continue to accept where we are in the moment. Right?! The best part is, we're presented with opportunities every day where we can practice having courage. It's never too late to be courageous.
