Say “NO” to GMO’s

Say NO to GMO's -The Pink Paper BlogSay "NO" to GMO's! This is the soapbox I'm standing proudly on until GMO's are taken out of our food supply. We, as in you and I, the American consumer and/or consumers living in the United States of America, have a right to know what's in our food! GMO containing food needs to be labeled as such... it's really that simple. Personally, I avoid all products containing GMO's - genetically modified organisms - are not in my diet. Why? Because I've worked way too hard to stay healthy and cancer-free to mess it up by eating harmful ingredients.

You may be wondering, 'What exactly is a genetically modified organism, what does it mean?' According to the non-profit organization called banGMfood,  "Genetic modification is a crude and imprecise way of incorporating foreign genetic material (e.g. from viruses, bacteria) into crops, with unpredictable consequences." Now if that doesn't sound deliciously appealing I don't know what does. They go on to say, " The resulting GM foods have undergone little rigorous and no long-term safety testing, but animal feeding tests have shown worrying health effects. Only one study has been published on the direct effects on humans of eating GM food. It found unexpected effects on gut bacteria and was never followed up on."

One test involving human consumption???? Unexpected effects????? Never followed up on??? Seriously???? What's going on here! Friends, as consumers we hold a lot of power in our pocketbooks. Use your power! Let Monsanto and all other  corporations involved in our food supply, know through your buying power that you will NOT stand for GMO's in your food supply or the animal's (who are then consumed by people) food supply. SAY "NO" to GMO's. Say it with your purchasing power!

What can you do?

*Avoid the top 4 GMO crops: Soy, Corn, Canola & Cottonseed. Use other cooking oils, like 100% extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil.

*Buy organic.

*Buy local.

*Read all labels. If you're not sure, take a pass.

*Don't use artificial additives/sweeteners.

* Look for the Non-GMO Verified label on the products you buy. No label? Contact the manufacturer or err on the side of caution, assume it's a GM food and don't eat.
